On October 16th the Hartford CityShare Project, along with reSET Social Enterprise Trust, members of the Hartford hOur Exchange, and community members will join the Sharing Cities Network and partners to participate in the Second Annual International Map Jam. This world event is bringing people together in cities, at map jamming parties around the world. Mapping creates more resilient cities by connecting grassroots sharing projects, cooperatives, community resources, and the commons.
During New Economy Week, the International Map Jam will launch on Indigenous People Day and continue for 2 weeks from Monday October 13th until Sunday the 27th. Hartford will join in solidarity with many other local groups to host their Map Jam on Global Map Jam Day (Thursday October 16th) and will take part in the 24 hour simultaneous ‘round the world mapping which will move across multiple continents and time zones before it reaches our city.
[“As many options, as many opportunities there are to bring people together, and to collaborate and share, not just resources, but also knowledge and history,” says Tom Llewellyn who hosted the Asheville Map Jam last year. “… that kind of sharing, collaborating and community-supporting is important for regenerating a city, a culture, a region and a nation.”]
This year’s event will build upon the huge success of the first map jam when 500 mappers in 60 cities made 50 maps in just 2 weeks. Hartford will join groups from all over the US and as far away as Nairobi, Kenya to map out their local resources towards sharing resources and strengthening community resilience. Join us for the fun
The map jam will be held at reSET Social Enterprise Trust, located at 99 Pratt Street, Suite 200 [Downtown] Hartford , CT 06103. This is between Trumbull Street and Main Street, across the street from the XL Center.
